Days 2.-7. Activities
Snowmobiling Adventure
Snowmobiling in Nellim is a big fun. There is unlimited wilderness, lots of tracks and beautiful scenery all around. After a snowmobiling lesson and safety instructions, we will head off on our snowmobiling adventure. During the day we will enjoy lunch by the open fire and warm drinks to keep us warm. Is there a better way to spend a winter day?
Reindeer Day with Snowmobile
A guided snowmobile tour that will give you an insight into the Sámi culture and the way of life in the North. The reindeer herder welcomes you and you will be invited to the reindeer enclosure. The guide will tell you more about the Sámi culture and the life of a reindeer herder. You will get the chance to feed the reindeer – the curious animals might even come up and eat out of your hand! After the amazing experience you will have lunch by the open fire. Comfortably seated on reindeer hides around the fire, you will be served reindeer soup and warm drinks that have been heated over the fire. During the day we will make stops at the Nellim church and the Russian Border.
Ice Fishing Trip with Snowmobile Sleigh
This day is dedicated to see the beauty of Lapland, sitting in a snowmobile sleigh and ice fishing. During this tour you will head towards one of the hundred lakes of Nellim. We will find the best spots for fishing, camp there and try our luck with ice fishing. During the day, you will enjoy warm drinks and have lunch by the open fire – if lucky, it will be fresh fish we caught by ourselves! If you wish to spend the day like locals, this is the way to do it!
Husky Safari
An absolute ‘must do’ when visiting Nellim! You will be taught how to handle the sled before you head out for the Husky Safari, where the huskies will pull your sled through the beautiful winter scenery, passing through the frozen Lake Inari. The dogs’ excitement is infectious and as the animals fall silent on the trail, you will realize that this is the only way to see Lapland. All of our Husky Safaris include full instructions and are based on two people sharing a sled unless otherwise stated.
Snowshoeing Adventure
Snowshoeing in the Winter Wonderland is something to really enjoy! Quietness of the woods and white snow around you gives you a magical feeling you’ll never forget. During the trip, the guide will share interesting stories and information about Finnish nature and animals. On the way, we will stop to enjoy lunch and warm drinks by the open fire. This trip is perfect for photographers and nature lovers, as snowshoeing is a true eco-activity!
Cross Country Skiing
We will get to know the skis, how to cope with them and learn some useful techniques. This skiing tryout is all about learning something new and once you get the hang of it, it will be the most rewarding sport you have ever tried. Don’t be afraid to fall over, as the soft snow will land you safely. There are a few ready-made tracks in the Nellim surroundings, so you will get a chance to go out on your own after this introductory tour.
Aurora Camp
This activity takes you Aurora hunting on the amazing Lake Inari. You will be comfortably seated in a sledge that is pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. This way you can enjoy the northern sky all the way to the camp site. While observing the night sky, we will enjoy the blazing campfire with hot drinks and each other’s company. The atmosphere by the campfire is an experience in itself. Our Aurora Camps are located 3-6 km from Nellim, facing the Northern sky. Lake Inari is one of the best places in the world for Aurora viewing since there is no light pollution at all. If you are lucky, you might get to enjoy this unique light phenomenon.
Aurora Snowmobiling
Night time snowmobiling is exhilarating experience. We will head out in search of good location, trying to spot some Aurora Borealis. If the northern lights appear, we will stop and admire the show. We will also have warm drinks to keep us warm and comfortable during the activity.
Aurora Hunt by Car
This is one of our well-known aurora gazing activities. We will try to hunt down the Auroras with a car. In good weather, we will head for one of the specific camp spots, to try and photograph this phenomenon. If the weather doesn’t look so promising, we’ll head further out in search of clearer skies. During the trip, the guide will serve some warm drinks and snacks.
Aurora workshop
Our expert guides will tell you everything you need to know about northern lights. Guides will give you a simple overview of the science behind this phenomenon. You can take your own camera with you and get the setting optimised for photographing northern lights.
Day 8. Departure
