Program
Day 1. Arrival
We’ll welcome you at the airport with a Nellim sign and transfer you to Wilderness Hotel Nellim. Upon arrival you will receive your program schedule before dinner. Depending on your arrival time, cold weather gear is given to you either upon arrival or the next day.
Days 2.-6. Activities
Snowmobile Adventure
Snowmobiling in Nellim is a big fun. There is unlimited wilderness, lots of tracks and beautiful scenery all around. After a snowmobiling lesson and safety instructions, we will head off on our snowmobiling adventure. During the day we will enjoy lunch by the open fire and warm drinks to keep us warm. Is there a better way to spend a winter day?
Reindeer Day with Snowmobile
A guided snowmobile tour that will give you an insight into the Sámi culture and the way of life in the North. The reindeer herder welcomes you and you will be invited to the reindeer enclosure. The guide will tell you more about the Sámi culture and the life of a reindeer herder. You will get the chance to feed the reindeer – the curious animals might even come up and eat out of your hand! After the amazing experience you will have lunch by the open fire. Comfortably seated on reindeer hides around the fire, you will be served reindeer soup and warm drinks that have been heated over the fire. During the day we will make stops at the Nellim church and the Russian Border.
Ice Fishing Experience
Join our guide on an ice fishing adventure on the ice of a wilderness lake. Our guide will teach us the secrets of this popular winter activity among the locals. We will learn how to drill holes to the ice, how to operate the fishing gear and then it’s time to try our luck. Some warm drinks are served to keep us warm while we wait for the fish to bite in the beautiful scenery of the arctic lake.
Husky Safari
An absolute ‘must do’ when visiting Nellim! You will be taught how to handle the sled before you head out for the Husky Safari, where the huskies will pull your sled through the beautiful winter scenery, passing through the frozen Lake Inari. The dogs’ excitement is infectious and as the animals fall silent on the trail, you will realize that this is the only way to see Lapland. All of our Husky Safaris include full instructions and are based on two people sharing a sled unless otherwise stated.
Gentle Snowshoeing
If you prefer a nice gentle walk in a beautiful snowy surrounding, this is the tour for you. We will equip you with snowshoes (and poles if preferred) and head for a nice little walk in the surroundings of the hotel. Along the way, our guide will share interesting stories and information about the Finnish nature.
Cross Country Skiing
We will get to know the skis, how to cope with them and learn some useful techniques. This skiing tryout is all about learning something new and once you get the hang of it, it will be the most rewarding sport you have ever tried. Don’t be afraid to fall over, as the soft snow will land you safely. There are a few ready-made tracks in the Nellim surroundings, so you will get a chance to go out on your own after this introductory tour.
Aurora Camp
This activity takes you Aurora hunting on the amazing Lake Inari. You will be comfortably seated in a sledge that is pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. This way you can enjoy the northern sky all the way to the camp site. While observing the night sky, we will enjoy the blazing campfire with hot drinks and each other’s company. The atmosphere by the campfire is an experience in itself. Our Aurora Camps are located 3-6km from Nellim, facing the Northern sky. Lake Inari is one of the best places in the world for Aurora viewing since there is no light pollution at all. If you are lucky, you might get to enjoy this unique light phenomenon.
Aurora Snowshoeing
Experience the amazing atmosphere of old forests on this relaxing snowshoe walk to the aurora camp spot. Walking in the dark forests companied by the light of the moon and dance of the northern lights is unforgettable. Warm up by the campfire and wait for the auroras to show up, while warm drinks are prepared on the open fire.
